In December 1940, on an east-bound train, May shares her seat with a charming young flyer, Raleigh. They discover they are from neighboring Appalachian towns, and he decides to change trains for Kentucky, promising to take May to the next Nibroc Festival – and so begins a hesitant and improbable romance. This story is not about events, it is about character. It is simply about two very different people whose casual acquaintance leads to something true and lasting.
