Charley's Aunt
A Farce
By Brandon Thomas
For over 100 years, audiences have been laughing at Charley’s Aunt. By George, it’s splendid! After Shakespeare, this is one of the most performed plays of all time. It’s about two Oxford undergrads who want to spend time with their girls, but a long time ago, that required the presence of a chaperone. The only problem is that Charley’s aunt has sent a note saying she will be delayed. Oh, what to do? What to do? Ah! Why not put their good friend, Lord Fancort Babberly in a dress and pass him off as Aunt Donna Lucia D’Alvadorez? Who’s to know? All is well until the real aunt turns up and – uh, oh! The delicious fun and romance ensue in one of the most enduring comedies of all time.
